Contrary to the many myths about solar PV, the Clean Energy Council has provided a solar PV myths and facts report to highlight the benefits of a solar power system.
Solar PV is becoming a more affordable solution to households with prices around 500 times cheaper today than when first solar cells were produced in mid-1950’s. Whilst many may believe that subsidies for solar systems have affected the rise in electricity bills, the truth is, these subsidies only account for around 6 per cent of the average household bill and is forecasted to fall even further by 2020. The main causes driving up electricity bills are network charges and the wholesale price of electricity.
On the contrary, figures from the Australian Energy Market Operator have shown that household solar has actually helped in reducing overall demand for energy, revising down by 5 per cent its annual forecast for energy demand.
Further, the solar industry has created thousands of jobs in Australia, in areas such a research and development, installations and customer service, distribution and others.
