Scientists from Stanford University School of Medicine may have developed a solution to help individuals restore their eyesight on certain types of degenerative eye disease, involving
tiny solar panel like cells.
The device involves a specifically designed pair of goggles equipped with a miniature camera and a pocket PC that is designed to process the visual data stream. The images are then
displayed on the goggle’s display. The images are beamed from the LCD using laser pulses to a photovoltaic silicon chip that is implanted beneath the retina. Finally, the electric currents on the chip would then trigger signals to the retina, flowing to the brain, and then allowing the individual to be able to see.
