The Southern Cross Renewable Energy Fund was created mid last year under the Australian government’s $100 million Renewable Energy Venture Capital Fund Program with the aim to increase renewable energy and improve technology in the area in the Australian and overseas market.
This is in line with the Australian government’s $3.2 billion establishment of the Australian Renewable Energy Agency, as part of the Clean Energy Future package.
The Minister of Resources and Energy, Martin Ferguson announced earlier this week that the fund has made a $1.5 million investment to Brisbane Materials. The investment will support the commercialisation of high performance, anti-reflective coatings that can be applied to solar panels, making them more efficient and cost effective.
