As the peak body representing Australia’s clean energy sector, the Clean Energy Council is involved in the development and deployment of clean energy technologies including solar power and has published numerous position papers, highlighting its stance on a range of renewable energy technologies.
With large scale solar power in particular, the CEC encourages support to avoid the risk of climate change and has provided main benefits associated with large scale solar.
Whilst there is currently minimal support outside of the Australian government’s Solar Flagships Program, the installation of large scale solar will provide great public good benefit especially as the country receives such a high amount of solar radiation.
Taking action on large scale solar will also generate a large amount of jobs domestically. According to the CEC position paper, solar PV generates up to 10 times the employment per GWh compared to traditional fossil fuel power plants, as a result of its distributed nature.
Increase in uptake of solar power will also assist with NEM’s summer peak prices, and finally, allow for the potential to reduce or delay the need for network augmentation.
